I am currently working as a systems administrator for KeNIC. KeNIC is a non-profit organization whose main aim is to manage and operate the .KE ccTLD. KeNIC was established to, among others:

    * Act as a trustee for the .ke country-code-top-level-domain
    * Become the .ke domain administrative contact as well as technical contact
    * Administer the .ke ccTLD and its Second Level Domains
    * Maintain and promote the operational stability and utility of the .ke ccTLD
    * Ensure a cost-effective administration of the .ke ccTLD and its sub- domains
    * Notify the Internet Corporation of Names and Numbers (ICANN) of any change to the contact information about the.ke ccTLD
    * Provide name service for all .ke, and ensure that the database is secure and stable
    * Allow ICANN to access .ke zone files and registration data (up to date) continuously maintain a KENIC website at all times with all the registration information meet all its financial obligations to ICANN comply with all global ICANN Internet policies and help in their development.

My specific role within the organization involves, but is not limited to providing technical support to enhance service delivery of the .KE Registry, responding to all technical requests by .KE accredited registrars, and to develop and manage internal systems including the name servers, mail servers, company website, NOC e.t.c

Our computing environment is based mainly on Linux/Unix operating systems on all the back-end servers, and MacOS on the end users computers.

The network environment consists of a cabled/structured LAN, terminating on switches, and connecting to a cisco router that servers as the gateway to our Internet connection. We have two redundant Internet connections, one through peering with the local IXP and another through an ISP.

My day to day activities deal mainly with administration of Unix/Linux server systems that serve not only the organization staff members but the Kenyan public as a whole, hence the need to learn more about scalable Internet services.

I have shared the knowledge gained from the previous workshop with other engineers who did not get the chance to attend the event through coaching, and mailing lists. 
The knowledge gained also enabled me to improve the technical services I offered to clients, thus improving on the quality of IP based solutions implemented in Kenyan organizations.
